Siemens will provide Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) with a total of 67 high-speed
trains in an order worth ˆ783 million. These “Railjet” trains are based on the
technology of Siemens Intercity vehicles. The trainsets are driven by Taurus
locomotives and reach maximum speeds of 230 km/h. A variable supply voltage
eliminates the need to change locomotives on routes in countries that use
different supply voltages. Starting in 2008, the first Railjet trains will
run between Budapest and Munich as well as between Vienna and Bregenz.
