Team from Vitebsk, Belarus, takes eighth place in the European Join Multimedia 2005 student competition

17.09.2005

Winners in this year’s Join Multimedia student competition were honored tonight at an award ceremony in Munich, Germany. Eight place in age group 1 (12-15) went to a student team from the Vitebsk School No. 37, Belarus. The school received a prize of ˆ1,000,-, the team received ˆ500,-. With more than 1,380 entries from 28 countries, participation in this year’s Join Multimedia competition, the ninth so far, was once again outstanding.

The students from the Vitebsk School No. 37, Belarus, Maksim Adaskevich, Ivan Harshunov, Aliaksandr Kudrashov, Volha Laktina, Mikita Laurou, Darya Shkola and Christina Zykova, – together with their supporting teachers Andrei Dukhounikau – worked for a full seven months to produce a PC-based multimedia show.

The show entitled “My little world of Vitebsk,” on the topic “People and places: Other countries, other customs,” is all about the history and traditions of the Belarusian city of Vitebsk. The entertaining show by the three girls and four boys presents chapters on history, folklore, art and festivals in a creative and highly informative manner. The skillfully integrated multimedia elements, such as self-made videos and photos, as well as the narration, deserve special mention. A highlight of the presentation is the virtual tour through historic Vitebsk. The viewer strolls through the streets using a charmingly illustrated city map, and by clicking the mouse, obtains worthwhile information about sights to see in the hometown of painter Marc Chagall. The consistent design, easy navigation and well-informed text all deserve special mention.

Join Multimedia is part of Generation21, Siemens’ worldwide program to promote the education and training of young people. The competition will take place again in 2006. Further information on Generation21 and Join Multimedia is available at www.siemens.com/join_multimedia.
